Disaster Services

 

 

 

Each year, the American Red Cross responds immediately to more than 67,000 disasters, including house or apartment fires, tornados, hurricanes, hazardous material spills, transportation accidents, explosion, and other natural man-made disasters.

Local Disaster Services Program

The Hoosier Hills Chapter provides 24-hour disaster assistance to Lawrence, Martin and Orange county residents. Single family emergencies are the most frequent disasters responded to by the Chapter.

The Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting the immediate emergency disaster-caused needs of people who are affected by a disaster. When our community is threatened by a disaster, or when a disaster strikes the area; the Red Cross provides shelter, food, clothing, medical and mental health care for disaster victims. The Red Cross helps local victims resume their normal lives and activities independently by giving financial assistance for needed items to include medicine, food, clothing, home repairs and furniture.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free and made possible by people like you who voluntarily donate their time and money.

Disaster Action Team

  • Being on call with a team to provide first response emergency assistance during local disasters, mainly single –family fires.
  • Serving as a daytime responder or a night and weekend responder.
  • Training provided- Three basic courses and others available for specialties.
  • Opportunity to go beyond the local chapter to national disasters.
  • Need for licensed nurses and mental health workers to staff shelters and assist with disaster victims.

Disaster Meetings for planning and training are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Anyone interested in becoming a Disaster Volunteer is invited to attend!
